چکیده

Abstract The Svalbard Composite Tectono-Sedimentary Element (SCTSE) is located on the northwestern corner of Barents Shelf and comprises a Carboniferous–Pleistocene sedimentary succession. Due to Cenozoic uplift, succession subaerially exposed in archipelago. oldest parts consist Carboniferous–Permian mixed siliciclastic, carbonate evaporite, spiculitic sediments that developed during multiple phases extension. majority Mesozoic composed siliciclastic deposits formed sag basins continental platforms. Episodes Late Jurassic Early Cretaceous contraction are evident eastern part archipelago nearby offshore areas. Differential uplift related opening Amerasian Basin emplacement High Arctic Large Igneous Province created major hiatus spanning from early Danian throughout CTSE. West Spitsbergen Fold Thrust Belt associated foreland basin central (Central Tertiary Basin) as response Eurekan Orogeny progressive northward North Atlantic Paleogene. This event was followed by formation yet another Oligocene–Pliocene. Multiple reservoir source-rock units provide analogues prolific acreages SW Sea, important for de-risking plays prospects. However, itself regarded high-risk acreage petroleum exploration. due Paleogene late Neogene western particular. There an absence mature source rocks east, entire region subjected strict environmental protection.

Benthic community structure, diversity, and productivity in the shallow Barents Sea bank (Svalbard Bank)

The Barents Sea is among the most productive areas in the world oceans, and its shallow banks exhibit particularly high rates of primary productivity reaching over 300 g C m-2year-1. Our study focused on the Svalbard Bank, an important feeding area for fishes and whales. In order to investigate how benthic community structure and benthic secondary production vary across environmental gradients ...

Barents Sea multidecadal variability

[1] We present area-averaged time series of temperature for the 100–150 m depth layer of the Barents Sea from 1900 through 2006. This record is dominated by multidecadal variability on the order of 4 C which is correlated with the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation Index. Citation: Levitus, S., G. Matishov, D. Seidov, and I. Smolyar (2009), Barents Sea multidecadal variability, Geophys. Res. Let...

The Barents Sea

Fisheries in the North Atlantic, southeast Atlantic, and eastern central Atlantic reached their maximum production levels one or two decades ago and are now showing a declining trend in total catches (1). The declining catches are consistent with observations that these areas have the highest incidence of overexploited stocks, depleted stocks or slowly recovering stocks that have been depleted ...

23. Sedimentary History of the Red Sea

Numerous studies have been made of Recent Red Sea sediments concerning their paleontology, mineralogy, or geochemistry. In addition, over 50 reports have been published on the sedimentary environment of the hot brine area (21°N) in the central axial valley (see Degens and Ross, 1969, and contained references; Backer and Schoell, 1972). These studies generally indicate considerable climatic fluc...
